The Pharos of Alexandria  Ball -

As the ancient library and lighthouse of Alexandria enlightened scholars and guided sailors so do Our Monarchs illuminate our lives and lead us to the dream.  Come celebrate the wisdom and power of the mighty Kurn and the brilliance and beauty of the celestial Eridani at  a Ball in their honor Saturday, August 30th at 9:00PM.

  • Refreshments and games to be available.

  • No dancing experience necessary.

  • All dances to be taught.

The Masque Ball of the Rosetta Stone - (Mask optional)

The Rosetta Stone was the key to decoding the marvels of ancient Egypt. So, too are period dances deciphered from medieval  texts.

You are invited to a Masque Ball to commemorate the astounding triumph of the decoding of the Rosetta Stone. Costumes and masks are encouraged but NOT necessary.   However, prizes will be awarded for those who come in costume or mask with an Egyptian or Greek theme.  Sunday in the feast hall at 9:00PM

  • No dancing experience necessary.

  • All dances to be taught.

What is a Masque?  A masque was a courtly entertainment that flourished in the 16th and 17thcenturies.   It combined music, dance, food, socializing, fancy costumes and performance all into one. King Henry VIII often starred in the elaborate plays accompanying a masque.   We will attempt to recreate the festive atmosphere of a masque with opportunities for conversation, medieval games and refreshments to accompany music and dance.

Do I need to wear a mask?  No, a mask is not required at all.

Will there be prizes?   Yes!  2 in fact.  The Populace is invited to create costumes for the masque that represent an Egyptian or Greek theme. The person best representing  each of the categories will receive a prize.

Do I need to know how to dance?  No, dancing experience is not required. The dancemaster will offer a tutorial before each dance is performed.

Will  I be expected to dance?  No. In period, people often came to the Balls to socialize with friends and not dance. There will be ample places to sit and partake of refreshments or play period games.
